Steps to make Venn Pongal:
- Wash rice and mung bean well
- Pressure cook Rice, Split mung bean, Jeera, Pepper, salt, Water, Milk for 3 whistles (Listed under Pressure cooking)
- Once the pressure gets released, Mash the contents a little bit
- Heat a skillet. add ghee, curry leaves, jeera and peppercorn (the ones listed under seasoning). stir for less than a minute and pour on top of the contents in pressure cooker. Stir well
- Heat Tadka pan and add ghee and cashew nuts(listed under garnish). Stir the cashew till the cashew turns light brown. This ghee and cashew is used to garnish pongal
- Serve hot with Coconut Chutney
We should be generous in using ghee for Pongal. Ven Pongal is also called as Kara Pongal. It is a comfort - food as it is easy and fast to prepare.
